Vijayasai Reddy, a Member of Parliament (MP) of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) made remarks regarding the Polavaram Project, in Delhi.

On the 21st of August, Vijayasai Reddy addressed the media and responded to questions regarding the fresh tenders for the Polavaram Project.

Polavaram Project is one of the biggest projects in Andhra Pradesh (AP,) which will resolve the water issues in the State and will help the farmers of AP in irrigation.

Speaking about the decision to start the construction of Polavaram Project afresh, with new contractors, Vijayasai Reddy said, “Any decision of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government was taken after discussing with Modi and Shah. Be it reverse tendering of Polavaram project or the review of PPAs, every major policy decision was thoroughly discussed with the PM.”

Mr. Reddy further criticised the former Government of AP, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) for indulging in corruption.

The comments of Mr. Reddy came after the opposition parties and leaders raised a question against the reverse tender and other policies of the TDP, which were removed by the YSRCP Government.

The Union Energy Secretary, the Jal Shakti Ministry and others were also concerned about the funds and future investments in the Project.

Sujana Chowdary, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) criticised the YSRCP for its claim that everything is done after Modi and Shah’s approval.  She said, “If you have the approval or the blessings of the PM and the Union Home Minister, why would the Jal Shakti ministry ask you not to go for reverse tendering. We have the proof of Jal Shakti ministry expressing reservations over reverse tendering in the form of a letter.’’

Sujana Chowdary justified his statement and said he knows the functioning of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Union Ministry never goes against PM Modi.

Later, the opposition also asked about the shifting of AP’s capital from Amaravati to another city.

About this, Vijayasai Reddy said, “This is completely misleading to say that the proposal to shift Amaravati was also discussed with the Centre. How is the Centre concerned with a State capital? Crores of public money have already been spent and it’s not easy to take a decision on it at this juncture.’’

Botsa Satyanarayana, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of AP, spoke about the shifting of AP’s capital from Amaravati.  He said the construction and development of Amaravati is not safe, owing to which, the YSRCP Government will discuss the matter and will make a decision about changing AP’s capital.

However, an official announcement regarding the new capital of AP is yet to be made.

Stay tuned for further updates.
