Vijayawada Temple Priest Tests Positive For Covid-19

On the 24th of June, archaka of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Temple, Vijayawada tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19. 

The archaka is currently in the COVID-19 designated hospital and undergoing treatment for the same. 

An archaka performing Lakshmi Kunkumarchana,  tested positive when the temple administration conducted a COVID-19 test for all their priests and workers. 

On the 24th of June, he was tested positive creating panic and chaos amongst the devotees who visited the temple and other priests came in contact with the archaka. 

This is the first case of COVID-19 positive from a temple after opening. 

As per the approval of the Union Home Ministry, temples, shopping malls and hotels were allowed to function from the 8th of June under the Unlock 1.0.

Following the guidelines of the Union Home Affairs Ministry, the temples started to resume for devotees from the 8th of June. 

The Durga temple administration is trying to find out how the priest was infected by the deadly virus. 

The temple administration is regularly conducting COVID -19 tests for the staff including the priests.

Recently, a temple staff in Jagannath temple of Puri also tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus. 

In another similar case, a temple priest of Kurnool’s Ahobilam tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus. 

In regard to this, many temple authorities across India postpones thei opening for devotees. 

Meanwhile, India crossed 4.56 lakh cases of the Novel Coronavirus till the 24th of June.
