Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) on the 19th of September, announced Aarogyasri scheme will soon be applicable for the AP people residing in Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad too.
The Aarogyasri scheme, which was introduced by late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the former CM of AP and Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s father, for the welfare of the people of Andhra Pradesh.
Previously, the AP Government announced the scheme for the people of AP in the State, but now they can have health services in the top hospitals of Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai. Patients whose medical expenses exceed Rs. 1,000 are eligible for the benefits of the scheme in these 3 cities.
According to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, approximately 150 super speciality hospitals in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai will provide health services to the AP people under the Aarogyasri scheme.
Jagan Mohan Reddy decided to ensure better health services to the poor as AP has very few hospitals with equipped infrastructure and treatment facilities for patients.
After the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) came to power in 2014, the Aarogyasri scheme was limited only in Andhra Pradesh, due to which, poor people were unable to take advantage of the schemes in different cities.
The AP CM also announced to pay Rs. 225 per day for the patients operated under scheme and Rs. 5,000 per month for those suffering from serious diseases until they recover.
The new proposals introduced in the Aarogyasri scheme will be implemented in West Godavari from the 1st of January 2020. As of now, people in a few regions enjoy the scheme, but by April 2020, all the districts of AP will have the benefits of the new Aarogyasri scheme.
After the implementation of the new proposals, the scheme will be able to cover approximately 2,000 diseases and improve the health sector in Andhra Pradesh.
