Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) on the 16th of September, announced an ex gratia for the families of the victims who died in the Devipatnam boat mishap in the Godavari river.

The Y.S. Jagan led the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government announced Rs. 10 lakhs as ex gratia for the families of the victims who lost their lives in the accident.  The State Government also announced Rs. 3 lakhs for the victims who were injured and Rs. 1 lakh for the survivors.

On the 15th of September, a boat named Royal Vasistha capsized, taking the lives of approximately 10 people.  There were 60 passengers on the boat, where 10 died and 25 survived and were rescued by the State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Rescue Force (NFRF.)

Y.S. Jagan announced the compensation during a press conference, where he also briefed about the situation.  He also directed the officials to take steps and set up a committee to investigate the boat accident. The committee will be headed by Special Chief Secretary of Irrigation, whereas the Revenue Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary of Tourism, Additional Director General of Law and Order and Collector of East Godavari are the other members of the committee.

On the 16th of September, Jagan Mohan Reddy, accompanied by M. Sucharitha, the Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) conducted an aerial survey of the Godavari river, AP.

Jagan Mohan also met the families of the deceased and the victims who are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Rajahmundry and Devipatnam.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO,) on the 16th of September, released a statement which read, “The Chief Minister expressed his unhappiness over the way the licences were allotted for private boats for ferrying tourists and asked if there was a control room that was monitoring the navigation.”

The rescue team is still trying to locate the other missing passengers, who are expected to be dead.
