After NTR Jr, Mr. Nandamuri Balakrishna, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila also took a dig against Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, regarding the decision to change NTR Health University’s name.
On the 24th of September, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila, the President of the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) found fault with the decision of her brother Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who proposed to rename the NTR University of Health Sciences after their late father, Mr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR.) Addressing the media in Hyderabad, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila said, the proposal came as a huge insult to the crores of fans of the late Mr. Nandamuru Taraka Rama Rao (NTR,) the founder of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP.) She said, her father was a great and popular leader and Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy need not to change name of some institution after the late Y.S. Rajashekhara to prove his great leadership.
Ms. Y.S. Sharmila said, “Today this institution has been renamed after YSR. Tomorrow, another government may change the name. Will this not amount to insulting YSR?” Ms. Y.S. Sharmila, who is currently conducting a padyatra in Vikarabad district, felt that her late father YSR does not need somebody’s fame.
Ms. Y.S. Sharmila said, “No one enjoys the status which YSR had. When he passed away, 700 people died of shock.”
The statement came days after Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP Government in Andhra Pradesh, proposed to change the name of NTR Health University to YSR Health University. Since the proposal, many NTR fans, the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and other political parties opposed the decision and slammed the YSRCP Government.
Furthermore, the proposed bill to change the university name is pending with the Assembly session and Mr. Biswabhushan Harichandan, the Andhra Pradesh Governor.
