The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) on the 3rd of December, announced amendments would be made to the food safety scheme.

 On the 3rd of December, the YSRCP Government amended the rules and regulations of the scheme.  

According to the new rule, citizens of Andhra Pradesh with an annual income of Rs. 44,000 and Rs. 20,000 in towns and villages respectively are eligible for the food safety scheme.

 Besides, people with four wheelers do not come under the  Below Poverty Line (BPL) quota and are exempted from getting ration cards under the food safety scheme.

 However, the AP Government did not clarify if cab drivers are eligible for the scheme.  People like sanitary workers working in government offices and labourers would be considered under the BPL quota. 

 The YSRCP Government would soon start issuing ration cards to the beneficiaries and the scheme would come into effect on the 1st of January 2020.
