The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) on the 1st of September, released water for paddy cultivation in 1.35 lakh acres land from the Nagarjuna Sagar (NS) right canal.

The water will be released for nine days continuously for irrigation in Guntur district.  During the Kharif season, the irrigated dry (ID) crops will also be cultivated in the NS right canal ayacut area in Guntur and Prakasam districts.

Mekathoti Sucharita, the Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on the 30th of August, addressed a press conference regarding the decision of the AP Government to release water from the NS right canal.  With the help of the released water, the farmers of the district can cultivate crops. The Nagarjuna Sagar right canal ayacut area covers districts and villages like Macherla, Gurazala, Sattenapalli, Vinukonda, Pedakurapadu, Narasaraopet and and Chilakaluripet in Guntur. 

The press conference was held at R And B Guest House, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh.

Ms. Sucharita also asked the farmers to cultivate paddy and irrigated dry crops using the released water.

According to the Home Minister, 75 thousand million cubic (tmc) feet (ft) water is provided to Guntur district and only 10 tmcft water is needed for drinking purpose.  The remaining water could be utilised for irrigation.

The YSRCP officials of the Home Ministry will supervise the release of water and will check the diversion of irrigation water.

The farmers will get continuous water from the Nagarjuna Sagar right canal till the 9th of September.
