The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) is going to launch the Vahana Mitra scheme on the 4th of October.

The Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy Government designed the scheme to benefit the commercial drivers of autos and taxis.

Under the Vahana Mitra scheme, the eligible drivers would be provided Rs. 10,000 per year.  Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, recently conducted a meeting and announced the scheme for the drivers in AP.

Mr. Reddy ordered the concerned officials to prepare a plan regarding the Vahana Mitra, so the State Government can implement the programme in the State.

Recently, the State Government also issued a notification for auto, maxi cab and taxi drivers, asking them to apply online or offline for the scheme, before the 24th of September.

Several help desks and counters were also set up at municipal corporations in cities like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

The scheme is being implemented to provide financial assistance to the drivers in the State, which could be useful for their insurance and other needs.

Y.S. Jagan, during the election campaigns, promised to launch schemes for the welfare of auto, taxi and maxi cab drivers.  Owners of cabs, autos and taxis will be eligible for the scheme if they have the required documents and certificates.

The eligible drivers are also asked to submit their Aadhaar card, white ration card, vehicle registration certificate, driving license and bank passbook.  Apart from these, drivers belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs,) Scheduled Tribes (STs,) Backward Classes (BCs) and minorities are also required to submit their caste certificates.

The village and ward volunteers, Grama Panchayat Secretary and Municipal Commission will scrutinise the submitted documents, following which, they can enjoy the benefits of the scheme.

According to sources, as of now, approximately 1,75,218 applications were submitted to the Transport Ministry of Andhra Pradesh.

The AP officials scrutinised and approved 93,741 applications.
