On 22nd May, two women walking down a street in Rampur were molested by 14 men. Among the 14, two of them even videotaped their friends harassing these girls.
The men then posted it on social media which gathered the attention of the police only on Sunday. The police have begun probing the case even though the women have not filed a complaint as yet. The Rampur police identified the accused and one of them has been arrested.
The FIR has been filed against the residents named, Farman, Jahan-e-Alam, Saddam and others of Kuva Kheda village in Rampur.
Vipin Tanda, Rampur’s SSP said, “We have formed five teams to arrest the other culprits.”
To add fuel to fire, Azam Khan, former urban development minister made a statement that suggested women should stay home and be protected.
The FIR filed against the accused is under the IPC section 354A, 354B (assault or use of force on a woman with intent to disrobe) and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, against the men.
The police are conducting raids across a number of villages to catch the accused.
The Congress has used this to their advantage to question the BJP’s rule. Abhishek Manu Singvi, Congress spokesman questioned the BJP’s law and order in UP.
