Afghanistan, on the 15th of February, filed a complaint with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) against Pakistan for the latter’s connection with Taliban.

The Afghan Permanent Mission in New York alleged, Pakistan is engaged with Taliban, which is affecting the peace talks between the Government of Afghanistan and Taliban.

Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, invited representatives of Taliban for a meeting, following which the Government of Afghanistan filed a complaint with the UN.

The Government of Afghanistan officials said, the meeting between the representatives of Taliban and the Prime Minister of Pakistan is a violation of international laws. The officials of Taliban, who were invited for the meet, are blacklisted by the UN and are banned from travelling, especially for official meetings.

Sibghat Ahmadi, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Afghanistan, said, “It is a clear violation of the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The national sovereignty is our redline, so we will deal with the issue from various forums. The Pakistanis did not coordinate this with us, this is somehow in recognition of the Taliban.”

He further said, “Yes, we have lodged a complaint with the UN over a trip by the Taliban delegation to Islamabad and the meeting with Pakistan’s top official; there are UN sanctions against members of the Taliban delegation which does not allow them to travel.”

The meeting between the Pakistan officials and the Taliban representatives is said to be a threat to Afghanistan.

The officials belonging to Afghanistan also suggested Islamabad to take serious actions against the terror groups residing in Pakistan, which can be a threat to both Afghanistan as well as Pakistan.

The complaint against Pakistan came a day after the Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans, on the 14th of February.
