AIADMK former chief V. K. Sasikala’s husband M. Natarajan passed away due to multiple organ failures at a hospital in Chennai. Last week, Natarajan was admitted to the Gleneagles Global Health City Hospital for a chest infection. The 74 year old was reported to be in a critical condition.

Chief Operating Officer of the Hospital released a statement that read, “It is with profound grief and sorrow that we announce the sad demise of Natarajan Maruthappa at 1.35 A.M., today.”

Sasikala is at present imprisoned at the central jail in Bengaluru for a disproportionate assets case. She will be given parole to attend her husband’s last rites. Mr. Natarajan was on a ventilators support as his condition deteriorated.

Last year in October, Natarajan underwent a double organ transplant and completely recovered. His wife Sasikala is serving a four year prison term after being convicted in the case. Earlier, Sasikala requested a 15 days parole to visit her ill husband in the hospital.

Sasikala married Natarajan Maruthappa a former Government public relations officers 33 years ago. Natarajan was the one who introduced his wife to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

Natarajan was among the list of Sasikala’s relatives who were expelled by Jayalalithaa from her Poes Garden house. Jayalalithaa accused the family of working against her interests.

However, Jayalalithaa let Sasikala join her forces again once she promised to end all ties with her family including Natarajan. Sasikala did as she was asked to stand by the former CM.
