Bank Strike: Employees Go On Two Day Bundh

A bank strike has been called by the employees for two days. The bank unions are disappointed with the recent 2% salary hike when they initially demanded 15%. The strike will be held today 30th of May and tomorrow the 31st of May.

This may affect ATM transactions and withdrawals for the next two days. Besides the ATMs, all bank functions will also be halted. Online bank operations will be available.

The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) General Secretary C. H. Venkatachalam explained, “It is kind of an insult to the employees of public sector banks…to be offered this kind of meager hike. We had no other option but to go on strike for two days.”

This bank strike may affect the public who needs to visit a branch but is good news for online banking. The online banking industry has started skyrocketing ever since demonetization. The recent bank strikes also contribute to boosting the industry.

Over 10,000 employees have participated in the strike demanding a better salary hike. The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) has however refused to the bank unions’ demands.
