The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has ordered to shut the meat stalls in Shivajinagar. The reason behind the order is that the shops contain dirty chicken cages and the stalls are maintained in a very unhygienic manner.
On Monday morning, the Palike’s Joint Commissioner, Sarfaraz Khan conducted a surprise check during his free time.
“I was very much shocked to see how dirtily they have kept the places. There was absolutely no hygiene maintained. There is no proper system to dispose of the waste meat. I immediately ordered the market to close down till the meat vendors cleared the mess,” Sarfaraz Khan said.
The residents of the area filed a complaint to BBMP that the meats sold are 3-4 days old.
“This was one of the surprise visits I conducted. Looking at the level of maintenance, the residents’ complaints might be true. I have asked the BBMP officials to investigate the matter and see if an old meat is being sold,” Khan added.
The Joint Commissioner was really shocked to see that none of them had made an important investment i.e., dustbin. This implies that they do not have a proper allocation to throw away the waste.
“The waste meat is just haphazardly thrown on the streets and the street corner. It’s just filled with the garbage. I have ordered the meat shop owners to shut down and clean up their stalls before beginning the operations,” he stated.
Sarfaraz Khan made a statement that he would conduct surprise visits regularly to these markets or send BBMP officials to do so.
“All of these markets will be monitored on a regular basis. If anyone is found operating under an unhygienic condition and not disposing of animal waste properly, strict action will be taken against them. This is very dangerous not only for the person working in such conditions but also to the consumers,” Khan added.
