The floods in Bihar have gotten worse in just 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 153 from 119 on Thursday. At present, 17 districts have been affected and nearly one crore people’s lives have been disrupted due to the floods.

A meeting was conducted regarding the floods with Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary in the Disaster Management Department Pratyay Amrit and his counterpart in the Health Department R.K. Mahajan attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Nitesh Kumar instructed that more airdropping of food packets need to be done in Palasi, Kursakanta, Jokihaat and Sikti.

He also ordered the Road Construction department to repair the roads from Kisanganj to Araria by tonight.

Train services have still been kept at a standstill due to the flooding of the railway tracks.

Union Minister of State for HRD Upendra Kushwaha gave a cheque of his one month salary to CM Kumar as relief funds. MP Ram Kumar Sharma also contributed the same amount of Rs. 50,000 to the CM. While MLA Sudhansu Sekhar and MLC Sanjeev Shyam Singh each contributed Rs. 30,000 towards Bihar’s flood relief fund.

The State Disaster Response Force with 446 members divided into 16 teams with 92 boats have been sent out to help stranded people. The army has sent out 2,228 personnel to assist in relief and rescue with 280 boats. At present, the Special Secretary in the Disaster Management Department reported that 1,765 community kitchens are working towards feeding 3.44 lakh people.
