On the 18th of April, two Naxals, allegedly involved in the killing of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) were themselves gunned down to death, in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. Apart from the two Naxals, four security personnel were also killed during the shoot out.

The shoot out took place when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an anti Naxal operations. When the team was patrolling through the Daulikarka forests, an exchange of bullets ensued, which resulted in the death of the said Naxals. Another rebel was also injured during the shootout.

Deputy Inspector General (anti Naxal operations) Sundarraj P., said in a statement, “After the guns fell silent, bodies of two ultras and a .315 bore gun were recovered from the spot.”

Varghese and Linga, the two Naxals killed during the shootout, were wanted for their alleged involvement in the death of BJP MLA Mandavi and his four security personnel on the 9th April.

The Naxalites blew up Mandavi’s convoy heading toward Kuwakonda from the Bacheli area using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED.)

An injured Maoist militia member was also found at the spot and shifted to a nearby hospital.
