In an animal shelter in a village in Mohali, 31 dogs were attacked with machetes and acid. The attack was allegedly carried out by the owner of the rented property.

Resham Dhaliwal took two rooms on rent a few months ago to run Protection and Care for Animals (PACFA), an animal shelter which she runs in the village of Nandiali.

The owner of the property Balwinder Singh asked Resham to vacate the room but she declined. On Monday, this led to a serious argument between the two.

The argument resulted in a gruesome and inhuman act where as many as 31 of her dogs were attacked with machetes, acid, and sticks.

Resham reported, “I found the charred body of a dog with acid burns.”

PETA, an animal rights body informed the media that one dog was killed in the attack and 11 were seriously injured. Among the 31 dogs, nearly 19 are missing.

The Station house officer has reported that the accused, Balwinder Singh has been arrested and the other two have absconded.

The accused have denied the allegations.

PETA has asked for immediate action against the accused to the Director General of Police.

Rajan Parwinder Singh, the station house officer has said that a case has been registered against the three accused. Balwinder Singh, his son Jimmy, and their servant Dharminder. The case has been registered under theft, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, and under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty of Animal Act.

The police are working to find the two that have absconded and are probing deeper into the case.
