Chandrababu Naidu Seeks Support For No Confidence Motion

The TDP President and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu is seeking support for the No Confidence motion. He penned a letter to all the Members of Parliament in the Country.

In the letter Naidu said, “In view of the continued adamant attitude of the BJP led NDA Government, the TDP Parliamentary Party again moved No Confidence motion against the Modi Government in the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament on July 18th 2018. Hon’ble Speaker Lok Sabha accepted the No Confidence motion and the same is scheduled to be taken up in the house on 20th July 2018.”

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said the notice moved by TDP and Congress will be taken up on Friday. About 50 opposition lawmakers stood in support of the No Confidence motion. The Speaker will have to set up a date and time to take up the discussion of the No Confidence motion. This announcement will have to be done with 10 days according to the law.

However, the motion will not endanger the BJP led Government as BJP has 273 members in the Lok Sabha which is far over the halfway mark. Unless the opposition manages to turn BJP lawmakers against their own party there is no hope to win. The TDP has moved a number of No Confidence motions against the Modi Government after the Center failed to approve the Special Category status for AP.

After bifurcation Andhra Pradesh faced a number of problems due to not having a capital in the State. In the bifurcation, Telangana got Hyderabad which was originally the capital of Andhra Pradesh. Since then the Andhra Pradesh Government demanded a Special Category Status for the State. The status will ensure more money is sent towards the State for quicker development. The BJP said it would give Andhra the status, this led to the TDP joining forces with the BJP. But the BJP has denied the status to Andhra after coming to power in 2014. According to the Center, the State received large amounts of funds but failed to show any progress.
