Chennai lawyers refused to represent the 17 men who are accused of raping an 11 year old girl. The men were produced in Court and lawyers and public servants were unable to hold their anger and began thrashing the rapists.
The 11 year old girl was raped in her apartment complex over weeks by 17 different men. The security guards, electricians and plumbers from the complex were among the accused. The men sedated the girl and forced her to drink spiked soft drinks before raping her.
The minor is hearing impaired and lives with her parents and sister in a 300 unit apartment complex. The police also reported the girl was blackmailed with videos of the assault. A 66 year old man working as a lift operator at the apartment was the first one to attack the girl.
The lift operator who has children of his own invited more men to come and rape the innocent child. The rapists sedated the girl and raped her in the basement, terrace, gym and public restrooms. The little girl finally built the courage to tell her older sister about her horrific ordeal. The sister informed the parents who immediately filed a police complaint.
Law and Order Inspector E. Rajeshwari addressed the media and firmly stated none of the accused would be spared. She stated while some were not directly involved in the crime they did nothing to stop the rapists, making them just as bad. The 17 men ranging between the age group of 66 and 25 have been charged with a number of serious crimes.
The Indian Judicial system plans to introduce a new sentencing for the rape of a minor. The accused who rapes a minor below the age of 12 will be sentenced to death by hanging.
