The front man of Linkin Park Chester Bennington was found dead on Thursday after hanging himself. The musician had to overcome a tough childhood to become a loved metal musician. The lead singer was only 41 years old.
The guitarist of Linkin Park and songwriter, Mike Shinoda tweeted, “Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true.”
On Thursday at around 9 A.M. (4 P.M. GMT) the Los Angeles County coroner’s office received a phone call that said Chester was found dead in his residence in Palos Verdes Estate.
Chief of operations at the coroner’s office, Brian Elias reported, “It is being handled as a possible suicide.”
Few hours before Chester killed himself the band Linkin Park released a video for their new single Talking to Myself.
Chester Bennington left behind his wife, Talinda Ann Bentley and six children from two marriages.
Bennington has struggled with alcohol and drugs since he was a teenager. The musician had admitted in 2014 that he had been abused by a family friend.
Chester Bennington decided to commit suicide on the day of Soundgarden lead singer Chris Cornell’s birthday. The Soundgarden singer had committed suicide about two months ago. Chester and Chris were very good friends and Chester performed ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen at Chris’ funeral in May.
Chester even wrote a heartbreaking note to his beloved friend, Chris. “You have inspired me in many ways you could never have known. Your talent was pure and unrivaled. Your voice was joy and pain, anger and forgiveness, love and heartache all wrapped up into one. I suppose that’s what we all are. You helped me understand that. I can’t imagine a world without you in it. I pray you find peace in the next life. I send my love to your wife and children, friends and family. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life.”
