Today, the Congress party will hold candlelight marches in all the state capitals to protest the increasing cases of assault against women. Congress President Rahul Gandhi instructed all the party members to conduct the march in their respective states.
This comes after the country was shaken by the shocking rapes cases in Kathua and Unnao. Congress General Secretary and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot briefed the chief of all the states. He asked his members to raise the issue of atrocities against women at the candlelight march.
On Friday midnight, Rahul Gandhi and other party leaders conducted a candlelight vigil at the India Gate in Delhi. The vigil concentrated on demanding strict action against the Kathua and Unnao rape cases that remain pending.
The Unnao rape case relates to a 15 year old girl who was raped by a BJP lawmaker last year in Uttar Pradesh. Her case spread in the country only after she attempted suicide outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s house earlier this month. The Kathua rape relates to an 8 year old Muslim child who was kidnapped and raped for days before she was murdered gruesomely by a Hindu fringe group. The group carried out this gruesome act to scare the child’s nomad community.
