A Student Union member of Delhi University filed a complaint with the police. The complaint alleged there are pro-ISIS slogans spray painted on the walls of the North Campus.
Jatin Narwal, Commissioner of Police said, “We have received a complaint and we are examining it.”
Ankit Sangwan, DUSU secretary, and an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) member reported the issue to the police after a few students approached him and informed him about the graffiti on the walls of the Delhi School of Economics.
Ankit then shared pictures of the ISIS slogans spray painted on the walls, along with a copy of the complaint.
The walls had “I am SYN ISIS” written with “I am” in pink and “SYN ISIS” in blue.
Ankit reported, “With CCTV cameras around, it should not be very difficult to figure out who wrote the message. We will also speak to the university authorities and department heads about this on Monday. It is not right that somebody tarnishes the name of a reputed department such as the department of social work.”
He further explained, “I found that ‘I am SYN ISIS’ was written on the wall, which means that an organization like ISIS is to be supported.”
The complaint was filed at Maurice Nagar Police Station on Saturday.
There were also slogans for “Justice for Naxals,” “Azadi”(freedom,) “LGBTQ” and “AFSPA” (Armed Forces Special Power Act.)
