On the 17th of June, Virendra Kumar, a former Union Minister and 7 time Member of Parliament (MP) of the Lok Sabha, took oath as the Protem Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Mr. Kumar administered the oath of office in front of Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi.

Mr. Kumar is one of the senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.) In 2014, Virendra Kumar served as the Minister of State for Women and Child Development and was also the Minister of Minority Affairs in Madhya Pradesh.

Kumar also contested the Lok Sabha elections and served as the 7 time MP of the Tikamgarh constituency, Madhya Pradesh.

Virendra Kumar took over charge as the Protem Speaker and will continue with his duties till the appointment of a new Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Virendra Kumar, on the 17th of June, during the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha, will administer the oath to the newly elected MPs of the Lok Sabha.

The elected MPs of the Lok Sabha will elect the new Speaker of the Lok Sabha on the 19th of June.
