On the 7th of May, the White House launched a new bid to overhaul the immigration system which the United States of America President, Donald Trump was long rallying against. According to the new bid, the White House plans on increasing the security at the border and to set up a new merit based system while accepting immigrants.

Following a meeting with President Trump and other senior officials, an administration official from the White House said, “What we’re doing in this plan is we’re working on keeping the number the same. We’re just changing the composition.”

The new proposal is likely to get major approval from the White House. With this new plan, the White House plans on attracting highly skilled people so as to have a value add in the United States economy.

“We’ve been playing around with it to figure out how you build something that really works for America. The No. 1 goal in that is to make sure that we’re not bringing in low-skilled labor,” an official from the White House said.

The two major ideas outlined by Kushner include the following plans:

  • A border security bill that would focus, in part, on modernizing ports of entry to make sure all people, vehicles and packages are scanned.
  • A second package of immigration proposals that would create a more merit based system to give preference to those with job skills rather than relatives of immigrants already in the country.

While Trump had previously rejected this proposal, he approved it on the 7th in a last ditch effort to rally support from every side. According to reports, the plan is now being called the “The President Trump Plan.”

After releasing details of the plan, the White House is now asking for feedback from Republican lawmakers.

Stay tuned for more updates.
