In yet another shocking case of attacks on tourists, 6 French nationals were beaten in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. On Sunday evening, a group of French tourists along with a few Indian friends were visiting a waterfall in Mirzapur near Varanasi.
While the group was returning from their trip a couple of young men passed lewd remarks at the women in the group. This led to an argument that escalated into a fight. The accused left and returned with 10 more men and thrashed the tourists and Indians.
The police have arrested 8 of the accused. A senior police officer, Ashish Tiwari said, “A boy called Vivek gathered some more boys and they assaulted the group. One of the men sustained head injuries. In the FIR, there is no mention that the foreign tourists were assaulted. We have a video of one of the foreign tourists who says they were not hit but got scratches when they tried to stop the attackers.”
Residents in the area intervened in the fight and managed to catch a few of the culprits.
