Hyderabad: DRI Seizes 1.4 Kgs Gold At Airport

In two different cases, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 1.4 Kgs of gold being smuggled from the Rajiv Gandhi Airport at Shamshabad in Hyderabad. The official also seized assorted foreign currency worth Rs. 27 lakhs in a separate case.

Early hours on Wednesday, the DRI received special intelligence and intercepted a passenger at the airport. The passenger cleared security and immigration checks when the DRI stopped him. He was about to board an Indigo flight to Sharjah.

The DRI found assorted foreign currency in U.S., Dollars, Saudi Riyals, Kuwait Dinars, UAE Dirhams, Qatar Riyals, Bahrain Dinars and Omani Riyals. The man confessed the currency was given to him by unauthorized dealers and they did not belong to him. He claimed he was carrying the money at the behest of someone else. The passenger was arrested and an investigation was launched by the DRI.

The second case involved the DRI intercepting a passenger arriving at the Hyderabad airport. A passenger traveling from Abu Dhabi on an Etihad flight landed in Hyderabad at 3:30 A.M.

The officials seized 12 gold bars weighing 1.4 Kgs worth Rs. 44.60 lakhs from the passenger. The passenger is an employee of the Air India SATS and was arrested by the DRI.
