Hyderabad celebrated Diwali with a big cloud of smoke floating above the city. Officials monitoring the air pollution levels reported a drastic rise on the eve of Diwali.

The Telangana State Pollution Control Board (PCB) monitored the air quality from three real time monitoring stations within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits. The results showed a sharp rise in the air pollution after 6 P.M., on Thursday.

It has been reported, Hyderabad will experience hazy weather for the next few days due to temperature inversion keeping the pollution from Diwali suspended in the air.

The city’s recorded pollution was higher than that of Delhi’s throughout the week. On Thursday, the monitoring station at the University of Hyderabad showed a particulate matter (PM) of 189 micrograms per meter cube while the normal level is at 100 micrograms per meter cube.

Thursday evening was a noisy one in Hyderabad with almost every other family bursting crackers to their heart’s content. As the evening past, the visibility levels decreased and the air smelled of gunpowder. Many seem to forget that the smoke harms everyone even the ones firing the crackers. This momentary enjoyment will soon result in permanent damage.
