On the 21st of June, Sri Lanka won the One Day International (ODI) match against England in the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup.

The 27th ODI match between Sri Lanka and England took place at Headingley Carnegie, Leeds, England.

This year, England is the host of the ICC World Cup, which started on the 30th of May and will continue till the 14th of July.

In the 27th ODI match, Sri Lanka won against England and scored 232 runs, with a loss of 9 wickets after 50 overs. England, on the other hand, scored 212 runs with a loss of 10 wickets (all out) after 47 overs.

In this series of the ICC World Cup, Team Sri Lanka played 2 matches, on the 1st of June and the 4th of June.  Out of the two ODI matches, Sri Lanka won the match against Afghanistan on the 4th of June.

According to the ICC matches scheduled, Sri Lanka was supposed to play 4 matches till now.  However, two ODI matches of Sri Lanka, scheduled on the 7th of June and the 11th of June against Pakistan and Bangladesh respectively, were abandoned due to rain.

On the other hand, Team England played a total of 6 ODI matches, including the match against Sri Lanka. Out of the 6 matches, England won 4 ODI matches, against South Africa, Bangladesh, West Indies and Afghanistan, on the 30th of May, the 8th of June, the 14th of June and the 18th of June respectively. Team England lost two matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka on the 3rd of June and the 21st of June.

In yesterday’s match, Angelo Mathews was the star player of Team Sri Lanka, who scored highest 85 runs off 115 balls.

Dimuth Karunaratne, the Captain of Team Sri Lanka, said, “Our batsmen and bowlers did a great job. The pitch was getting slower and slower and we couldn’t get to 300 so wanted 250 to 275. Angelo batted very well and with some score on the board the bowlers knew what to do. It’s a team effort, when Malinga got a couple of wickets we needed to keep him for the last overs, and Dhanajaya did a really good job.”

Eoin Morgan, a player of Team England, said, “We were good with the ball. But we lacked substantial partnerships (while chasing). It was not enough from us. It is more frustrating. Learning as much as we can. Both sides faced challenges with the bat. We have to come back quite aggressively. No, this is not a blow to semi final chances. Australia is tough. We don’t know yet about Roy’s participation for that game.”

After defeating England, Team Sri Lanka will play 3 matches against South Africa, West Indies and India on the 28th of June, the 1st of July and the 6th of July respectively.

On the 22nd of June, there will be a match between India and Afghanistan at 3:00 P.M.
