In a horrifying attack in Las Ramblas boulevard, Barcelona, nearly 13 people were killed after a van ran over pedestrians. The attack left over a 100 people injured and the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Head of Catalonia’s Regional Interior Department, Joaquim Forn tweeted, “My strongest condemnation of the terrorist attack in Barcelona. We can confirm 13 deaths.”
He further reported 15 of the injured people were in a critical condition and the death toll is most likely to increase.
The Mossos d’Esquadra regional force informed that two people affiliated to the attack have been detained for questioning. While the driver died in the car 3 km from the incident spot after exchanging gun shots with police officers.
At 5 P.M., on Thursday, the attack happened, the van ran into parked vehicles and then ran over pedestrians on the footpath.
The Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy announced National mourning for three days and also said, “terrorists are defeated by unity.”
