The Income Tax (IT) Department, on the 12th of March, raided multiple properties of Netram, the ex secretary of Mayawati Das, the President of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP.)

According to sources, Netram allegedly evaded taxes amounting to Rs. 100 crores, following which, the IT officials carried out raids in approximately 12 locations, including Delhi and Lucknow.

An IT official addressed the media and said, “Netram has amassed wealth and evaded tax worth hundreds of crores, raids are being conducted to unearth the alleged tax evasion. The raids started in the morning and expected to go on till late in the evening.”

As of now, the IT officials are conducting searches across India, at several properties belonging to Netram.

Netram, an Indian Administration Service (IAS) officer, served the BSP Government as the Secretary of the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, from 2007 to 2014.

It is also said, the BSP was thinking of giving a BSP ticket to Netram to contest the Lok Sabha elections.

The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled between the 11th of April and the 19th of May 2019. The major parties contesting are the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
