Two militants were killed, on the 3rd of May, in an ongoing encounter between militants and security forces in Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir.
The fight broke out between the militants and the security forces after the security forces heard a gunshot and launched a search operation in the Adkhara area of Shopian.
Militants fired at the security forces during the search operation, following which a security official was injured and immediately taken to an army base hospital in Srinagar.
The security forces launched a search operation based on the intelligence information about the militants hiding in Adkhara area of Imam Sahib in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police official, Tariq Maulvi, who is a commander of terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen, is one of the militants who died in the encounter. However, the exact identities of the two dead militants are being ascertained.
According to the intelligence report, 2 to 3 militants are still hiding in the Adkhara area of Imam Sahib in Shopian.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police said, “Brief exchange of firing between Security forces and terrorists in Shopian. The area under cordon. Information is preliminary in nature.”
A joint team of 34 Rashtriya Rifles (RR,) Special Operations Group (SOG,) security forces and the Army officials launched a search operation and cordoned off the area.
The officials are inspecting the areas and stopped the internet services in Shopian and South Kashmir as a precautionary measure.
