Kerala Floods: PM Modi Announces 500 Crores For Relief In The State

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi announced Rs. 500 crores for flood relief in Kerala. The condition in Kerala continues to deteriorate with the death toll crossing 300 people.

This morning PM Modi took an aerial survey of Kerala with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. After the survey PM Modi tweeted, “In Kerala, I took stock of the situation arising in the wake of the devastating floods across the state. Joined a review meeting and undertook an aerial survey to assess the damage caused by flooding. The nation stands firmly with Kerala in this hour.”

Apart from the 500 crores, Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced Rs. 100 crores to Kerala. PM Modi also stated Rs. 1 lakh would be given as compensation to families who lost family members in the flood. An additional Rs. 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured.

The Telangana Government announced Rs. 25 crores as relief for the worst flood in Kerala history.

On the other hand, the Education Department rescheduled Onam vacations for the schools in Kerala. The children will now be on vacation from the 17th of August to the 29th of August.

The Supreme Court was also brought into the crisis who delegated the sub committee. The Court asked for an examination of the situation and also watch the water level in the Mullaperiyar. The committee will need to work towards finding solutions to avoid overflowing of this dam.
