Kerala Floods: UAE Government Extends 700 Crores For Relief

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Government has extended Rs. 700 crores for flood relief in Kerala. The financial assistance from the UAE will be used to rebuild the flood ravaged State. The rains in Kerala have slowed down but thousands of people were left homeless and over 300 people died.

The Vice President of UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum tweeted. “The people of Kerala have always been and are still part of our success story in the UAE.”

The UAE Government has also formed a National Emergency Committee to help the Kerala flood victims.

Union Minister K. J. Alphons reported about the situation and said, “Water has gone down everywhere and the sun has come out. Rescue operations are almost over, now comes the scary part to rehabilitate.”

He further added, “Over a million people are still in relief camps, which are doing very, very well. The state government is doing an excellent job. The central forces have done an amazing work. The fishermen are the real heroes. They brought 600 boats and saved hundreds.”

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi also announced Rs. 500 crores for flood relief in Kerala last week. Apart from the 500 crores, Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced Rs. 100 crores to Kerala. PM Modi also stated Rs. 1 lakh would be given as compensation to families who lost family members in the flood. An additional Rs. 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured.

The Telangana Government announced Rs. 25 crores as relief for the worst flood in Kerala history.

On the other hand, the Education Department rescheduled Onam vacations for the schools in Kerala. The children will now be on vacation from the 17th of August to the 29th of August.
