On Thursday, LinkedIn launched the ‘LinkedIn Lite’ Android app which is faster and also a lighter version of its flagship app in India.

The app offers the users an intuitive experience on Android’s operating system (OS) which accounts for 97 percent of India’s smartphone market. In India, LinkedIn has more than 42 million members.

“Besides providing a fast, data-light solution for professionals in slow network areas, we hope the LinkedIn Lite app will democratize access to economic opportunity,” said Akshay Kothari, LinkedIn’s Country Manager in India.

“Regardless of their device or location, we hope to level the playing field for all the LinkedIn members so they can get closer to their dream jobs, grow their networks and become more and more successful,” he added.

LinkedIn Lite app was first released to the members in India, which was developed by the LinkedIn’s R&D team in Bangalore. As a matter of fact, this app was inspired by the success of the lightweight mobile website which was launched in the year 2016. LinkedIn has planned to release the mobile web version and the Android app in over 60 countries shortly.

“We have now been able to take all the LinkedIn experience and package into an app that is less than 1 MB,” Kothari said.

The app size is 601KB. The app offers features like news feed, messaging, notification, network and search. The app is available on Google Play Store for all the android users in India.
