Akhilesh Yadav, the President of the Samajwadi Party (SP,) on the 24th of March, announced, he will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Azamgarh constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
The announcement was made after the Party released a list of candidates contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Akhilesh Yadav will contest as the Member of Parliament (MP) candidate from Azamgarh, which is currently held by his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The current MP of the Azamgarh constituency, Mulayam Singh Yadav, is nominated to contest for the Mainpuri constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
According to sources, the Azamgarh seat is said to be safe for Akhilesh Yadav as since 1989, the seat has been won either by a Muslim candidate or candidate of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s SP.
Mulayam Singh Yadav is the founder of the Samajwadi Party, which is now led by Akhilesh Yadav.
Uttar Pradesh will contest for a total of 80 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are divided into 7 phases.
The Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held on the 11th of April, 18th of April, 23rd of April, 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and 19th of May.
The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the Indian National Congress (INC) and the grand alliance of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP.)
The results of the elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
