Nitish Kumar, the President of the Janata Dal (United) (JD[U]) and the Chief Minister of Bihar, on the 5th of March, clarified, the alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the JD (U) is limited to Bihar.

K.C. Tyagi, the National General Secretary of the JD (U,) said, “The alliance is limited to Bihar only and not outside it. Hence the Party is independent in all the other states and is committed to working for the propagation of its legacy of the socialist movement.”

The JD (U) is expected to contest the Lok Sabha elections alone in all the states except Bihar, where the Party will contest in an alliance with the BJP.

Bihar will contest a total of 40 Lok Sabha seats against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA,) led by the Indian National Congress (INC.)

On the 4th of March, the JD (U) held a national executive meeting and proposed the formation of a three member committee, comprising of K.C. Tyagi, R.C.P. Singh and Prashant Kishor. The Committee will conduct meetings and talks regarding the strategies ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and will also converse with the heads of different states.

Apart from Bihar and Lakshadweep, the states where the JD (U) is planning to contest are Jharkhand, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled between April and May 2019 and the major parties contesting are the BJP and the INC.
