The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 16th of April, lodged a complaint against Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) with the Election Commission of India (ECI.)

On the 16th of April, Ravi Shankar Prasad, a Union Minister of India, along with other BJP leaders, met Sunil Arora, the Chief Election Commissioner of India. The members, during the meeting, expressed their anger over the comments and demanded a ban on the campaigns of Rahul Gandhi for the Lok Sabha elections.

According to the complaint, the BJP leaders alleged Mr. Gandhi of using the term ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ and making false allegations against PM Modi regarding the Rafale deal to the Supreme Court (SC.)

Rahul Gandhi, on multiple occasions, has used the Rafale deal as a way to target the PM Modi led the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

During numerous rallies, public meetings and campaigns, the INC leaders, especially Rahul Gandhi, have criticised Mr. Modi.

After the meeting, Ravi Shankar Prasad addressed the media and said, “Today (the 16th of April) we have strongly complained to the EC to take serious cognisance, take appropriate action against Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his continuous reckless allegations against the Prime Minister of India by saying Chowkidar chor hai.”

This is not the first time the BJP is complaining about a comment made by Rahul Gandhi pertaining to the Rafale deal and the BJP.

Recently, on the 16th of April, the SC issued a notice to the INC President. The notice was given after Meenakshi Lekhi, a BJP leader, filed a petition against the remarks of Rahul Gandhi.

The BJP demanded strict action against Rahul Gandhi, who violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the Lok Sabha elections.

The Lok Sabha elections began on the 11th of April and will continue till the 19th of May 2019.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the Indian National Congress (INC) and the BJP.

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
