Bhupesh Baghel, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, on the 7th of May, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for his comments on Late Rajiv Gandhi.

Mr. Baghel said, “The PM’s remark on Rajiv ji is highly condemnable. No one can even imagine that a person of the stature of prime minister would make such a derogatory remark about a person who is not alive and was a respectable political figure. It shows the PM has lost his mental balance and needs medication.”

The comments of Mr. Baghel came after Mr. Modi, on the 4th of May, addressed a rally in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh and referred Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India as corrupt.

Mr. Modi said, “Your father (Rahul Gandhi’s father, Rajiv Gandhi) was termed Mr. Clean by his courtiers, but his life ended as ‘Bhrastachari number 1 (corrupt number 1.)”

Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC) filed a complaint against PM Modi for his remarks against his father, Late Rajiv Gandhi.

Mr. Baghel quoted Mr. Modi’s lack of sleep as the reason for his mental disbalance, as he sleeps for 3 to 4 hours only.

Baghel continued his criticism in the rally and said, such a mentally disabled person should not be given such an important position of Prime Minister, as it will be dangerous for the nation.

However, Sachchidanand Upsane, the Spokesperson of the BJP in Chhattisgarh lashed out at Baghel for his remarks and sought an apology for the same.

Mr. Upsane said, “Since Modi ji became PM, Congress leaders have been making very objectionable comments on him. Now a CM has made such a remark. He should apologise.”

The comments and criticism is a part of the campaign strategies of both the major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections 2019.

The INC and the BJP are in the fray to win the Lok Sabha elections and form the Government of India.

The Lok Sabha elections started from the 11th of April and will continue till the 19th of May 2019.

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
