Gautam Gambhir, a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 9th of May, sent a defamation notice to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders.

On the 9th of May, Atishi, the MP candidate of the AAP from East Delhi with the AAP conducted a press conference and targeted Gautam Gambhir, the MP candidate of BJP from East Delhi.

During the press conference, Atishi alleged Gambhir distributed pamphlets with abusive and derogatory remarks against her in East Delhi.

Atishi is contesting against Gautam Gambhir from the East Delhi constituency in the Delhi Lok Sabha elections.

According to sources, the pamphlets, which AAP claimed was distributed with newspapers in east Delhi societies by Gambhir called Atishi a ‘prostitute’, ‘Beefeater’ and a ‘very good example of a mixed breed.’

Gautam Gambhir and the BJP denied the allegations and sent a defamation notice to Atishi.

Gambhir took to Twitter and blamed Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and the President of AAP for the abusive pamphlets to win the Lok Sabha elections.

In a series of tweets, Gambhir also asked the AAP to prove the allegations and said if the AAP proves the allegations, then he will quit politics, whereas if not, then Kejriwal should quit Politics.

Apart from Gambhir’s defamation notice to Atishi, the BJP also sent a legal notice to Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and Arvind Kejriwal for defaming Gambhir.

The legal notice issued to the AAP states, “The Noticees vide the statements in the press conference and on social media websites (‘impugned statement’) have in a calculated and coordinated manner, wrongly and erroneously alleged that these pamphlets have been distributed by our client/ or at his behest.”

The BJP demanded an apology and asked the AAP to withdraw their allegations or they will face legal action.

The BJP said the AAP is using all these tactics to gain sympathy votes and win the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi.

Delhi will contest a total of 7 seats in the Lok Sabha elections scheduled on the 12th of May.

The major parties contesting the Delhi Lok Sabha elections are the AAP, the BJP and the Indian National Congress (INC.)

The results of the Delhi Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
