Gautam Gambhir, a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 23rd of April, filed his nomination to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the East Delhi constituency.
Mr. Gambhir addressed a roadshow, after which he filed his nomination.
On the 22nd of April, the BJP announced its decision nominate Gautam Gambhir, a cricketer turned politician, to contest from East Delhi. Gambhir replaced Mahesh Giri, the current MP of the East Delhi constituency.
Mr. Gambhir performed a puja in the morning and then submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer (RO) of the East Delhi constituency.
Mr. Gambhir addressed the media and said, “I really want to contribute something to the Country and whatever our Prime Minister has done in the last five years. I want to take that legacy forward. I will try to work as much as I can with an honest heart and clear intentions.”
Gautam Gambhir will contest the Delhi Lok Sabha elections from East Delhi against Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Atishi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP.)
Delhi will contest a total of 7 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled on the 12th of May 2019.
The major parties contesting the Delhi Lok Sabha elections are the INC, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP.
The results of the Delhi Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
