Days before the national Lok Sabha elections, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 22nd of March. The 37 year old cricketer is expected to contest the elections in the New Delhi constituency.

The ex cricketer was sworn into the Party in the presence of Union Ministers, Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad. “I am joining the party after being influenced by PM Narendra’ Modi’s vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform,” said Gambhir, after being sworn in as a member of the Party.

The fact that Gambhir grew up and studied in the Constituency which he may represent is not missed. Further highlighting his relationship with New Delhi, BJP sources said, this move is going to be quite a strategic win.

With a reach of more than nine million followers, Gautam Gambhir has ensured he brings his massive follower base to the political world. By constantly commenting and remarking about the security and social background of the Country, Gambhir, time and again, actively voiced his opinions.

The famed and admired cricketer retired from the sporting world after a 15 year long reign on the field. With 58 Test Caps, 9 hundreds and 22 fifties, Gambhir proved his love not only for the sport, but for team work as well.

After keeping everyone on the hook, the BJP finally announced its first list of candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections, on the 21st of March.
