Ravi Kishan, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) faced a lot of criticism for filing incorrect education qualifications in his affidavit.

Actor turned politician Ravi Kishan is the Member of Parliament (MP) candidate of the BJP from the Gorakhpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections. He filed his nomination and claimed, he is an Intermediate pass, whereas, in the 2014 elections, Kishan claimed to be a graduate.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ravi Kishan filed his nomination as the MP candidate of the Indian National Congress (INC) from Jaunpur. During the 2014 elections, in his affidavit, he stated he was a graduate.

Santosh Singh, a residence of Kushinagar, filed a complaint against Ravi Kishan with the Returning Officer (RO) of Gorakhpur.

In his complaint, Santosh asked how Ravi Kishan, who was a Commerce graduate in 2014, could change his qualifications to Intermediate pass in 2019.

Santosh Mani Tripathi, the General Secretary of the Rashtriya Mazdoor Congress, also accused Ravi Kishan of not filing his nomination papers and excluding his signatures from his nomination papers.

K. Vijendra Pandiyan, the RO of Gorakhpur, said, the Election Commission (EC) of Uttar Pradesh is scrutinising his papers and if the allegations against Kishan are proven right, the EC will cancel his nomination in the Constituency.

Gorakhpur is one of the constituencies in Uttar Pradesh contesting the Lok Sabha elections in the 7th phase of the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled on the 19th of May.

The Lok Sabha elections are divided into 7 phases, out of which, elections for 4 phases for 377 seats were held on the 11th, 18th, 23rd and the 29th of April 2019.

The remaining 3 phases of the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held on the 6th, 12th and the 19th of May 2019.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the INC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
