The Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 5th of May, wrote a letter to the Election Commission of Uttar Pradesh and demanded strict action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr. Narendra Modi, on the 4th of May, addressed a public rally in Uttar Pradesh and criticised Late Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.

Mr. Modi said, “Your father was termed ‘Mr Clean’ by his courtiers, but his life ended as ‘Bhrashtachari No. 1.”

Rahul Gandhi, the President of the INC said, the comments of Mr. Modi, against Late Rajiv Gandhi, the father of Rahul Gandhi is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC.)

The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee immediately complaint to the ECI and sent a letter for the violation of the MCC. In the letter the UPCC wrote, “The statement by (the) Prime Minister is not only the violation of the Model Code of Conduct but also an insult of Bharat Ratna awardee martyr. Hence, we appeal the EC to take action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi by barring him from speaking at public rallies.”

This is not the first time, the INC has lodged a complaint against the Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

Recently, the INC filed a case in the Supreme Court (SC) against the ECI for not being fair and supporting the PM Modi led BJP.

According to the petition filed, the ECI was not conducting the Lok Sabha elections in a fair and just manner and was acting completely in favour of the BJP.

The criticism and allegations are a part of the campaign strategies of both the parties to secure the majority of seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

The Lok Sabha elections started from the 11th of April and will continue till the 19th of May 2019.

The major parties competing to form the Government of India are the INC and the BJP.

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
