A few Indian National Congress (INC) leaders are expected to meet M.K. Stalin, the President of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK,) and form an alliance with the DMK, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The decision came after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK,) on the 19th of February, formed an alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu.

K.C. Venugopal and T.N. Mukul Wasnik, senior INC leaders, on the 20th of February, will hold a meeting, during which they will strike an alliance deal with the DMK.

According to sources, M.K. Stalin’s Party is likely to contest 20 to 25 seats, whereas the remaining seats in the State are expected to be taken by the alliance partners of the DMK.

Tamil Nadu will contest a total of 39 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

According to sources, the INC is likely to contest a total of 9 seats in the Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha elections.

According to DMK officials, Kanimozhi, a Rajya Sabha lawmaker and a DMK member, on the 18th and 19th of February, met Rahul Gandhi, the President of the INC, to discuss about the seat sharing strategy.

A source, who does not wish to be named, confirmed the alliance and said, “DMK RS (Rajya Sabha) MP (Member of Parliament) Kanimozhi had met Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday morning and proposed 9+1 seat sharing formula between DMK and the Congress (INC.)”

Mr. Venugopal and Mr. Waskin will leave for Chennai today afternoon and will sign the documents and agreements regarding the alliance.

An official announcement regarding the same is expected at 4:00 P.M., on the 20th of February.
