Manikrao Gavit, a senior tribal leader of the Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 29th of March, threatened to quit the Party.

Mr. Gavit, who is a nine time Member of Parliament of the INC in Maharashtra, was upset with the Party, as the Party denied an INC ticket to Gavit’s son, Bharat Gavit, for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Manikrao Gavit said, “After serving the party for so long, I am a bit dejected that my son could not get a ticket.”

The INC, instead of giving the ticket to Bharat Gavit, nominated K.C. Padvi to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Nandurbar constituency in Maharashtra.

When asked about his next move, Manikrao Gavit said, his son, Bharat Gavti called for an urgent meeting, on the 30th of March. Based on the discussions during the meeting, Manikrao will decide his next move.

Manikrao Gavit said, “We should decide whether to contest independently or support the BJP at the meeting called on Saturday (the 30th of March.)”

If Manikrao Gavit switches his Party, it could be a major setback for the INC, as the vote banks in Maharashtra would be affected ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

According to sources, Mr. Gavit may switch to the opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.).

Maharashtra will contest a total of 48 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are divided into 4 phases.

The Maharashtra Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held on the 11th of April, 18th of April, 23rd of April and the 29th of April 2019.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the INC and the BJP.

Stay tuned for further updates about the Lok Sabha elections.
