Lok Sabha Elections – Nominations Begin For 6th Phase

The Election Commission of India (ECI,) on the 16th of April, announced the commencement of the nomination filing process for the states contesting the Lok Sabha elections in the 6th phase.

A total of 7 states will contest the Lok Sabha elections in the 6th phase, on the 12th of May.

The Lok Sabha elections, which are divided into 7 phases, started from the 11th of April and will continue till the 19th of May.

On the 11th of April, 20 states contested a total of 93 Parliamentary seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

The states which will contest the Lok Sabha elections for 59 Parliamentary seats in the 6th phase are:
Bihar (8 Lok Sabha seats,) Haryana (10 seats,) Jharkhand (4 seats,) Madhya Pradesh (8 seats,) Uttar Pradesh (14 seats,) West Bengal (8 seats) and Delhi (7 seats.)

The filing of nominations began at 11 A.M., on the 16th of April and will continue till the 23rd of April.

Though the last date is the 23rd of April, the candidates cannot file their nominations on the 17th of April and the 19th of April due to Good Friday and Sunday respectively.

The Returning Officers (ROs) of all the Parliamentary constituencies of the respective states will file the nominations after receiving the necessary documents of the candidates.

The scrutiny of the applications will be done on the 24th of April, whereas the date for the candidates to withdraw their names from the elections is the 26th of April.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
