The Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS,) the organisation created and headed by Hardik Patel, will be dissolved during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Created to increase the support and the reservation quota for the Patidar Community, the PAAS group came into power in the year 2015 and was doing really well till the beginning of 2019.

According to Hardik Patel, the main aim of this particular organisation has been achieved since being founded. Once all the criminal cases against the Party members are withdrawn, the PAAS will be dissolved.

“The main demand of the PAAS was to ensure reservation for the community and that has been achieved. All the financially backward communities in the country are now entitled to 10 per cent reservation because of our agitation… So, once the issue of withdrawal of criminal cases registered against (the) Patidars is resolved, the PAAS will be dissolved,” Hardik said in a statement.

Patel was one of the three people introduced by the Indian National Congress (INC) in the beginning of 2017. Not only did Patel gain recognition for the PAAS in Gujarat, but was being appreciated all over India. However, when Patel officially joined the INC, the conviction of a case of violence in 2015 proved to be a major setback for the opposition. As a result of the Supreme Court not willing to fast track the hearing on Patel’s case, the INC is running short of one contesting member.

Manish Doshi, the INC spokesperson, said, “The Party wanted him to fight the elections. While due to a legal issue, he will not be able to, this will allow him to campaign for the party on all the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat and also other parts of the country. The Party will gain from that.”

With the dissolution of the PAAS and Hardik Patel’s inability to contest the ongoing elections, the INC is facing a tough time with regard to the Gandhinagar constituency.

The Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat, scheduled on the 23rd of April, will be held for a total of 26 seats.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the INC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

The results of the elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
