Poonam Sinha, the wife of actor turned politician Shatrughan Sinha, joined the Samajwadi Party (SP,) on the 16th of April, in Uttar Pradesh.

Poonam, an actor and a fashion model, joined the SP in the presence of Akhilesh Yadav, the President of the SP, Dimple Yadav, the wife of Akhilesh and other SP members.

Dimple Yadav welcomed Poonam Sinha and expressed her happiness.


It is speculated, Poonam will contest the Lok Sabha elections as a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate from Lucknow. She will fight against Rajnath Singh, the Home Minister of India and the MP candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Lucknow.

Rajnath Singh was the first candidate to file the nomination in the Lucknow constituency, Uttar Pradesh.

However, the official announcement regarding the constituency from which Poonam will contest is yet to be made.

According to sources, the Indian National Congress (INC) did not file any nominations in Lucknow. If the INC leaves the Lucknow constituency, there will be a one on one fight between the BJP and the grand alliance of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the SP in Lucknow.

Speaking about the chance to contest from Lucknow against Rajnath Singh, Ms. Poonam said, “Koi baat nahi, acchi tarah se ladenge (It does not matter, I will fight strongly.)”

It is said, Poonam Sinha will file her nomination papers, on the 18th of April, which is the last day for filing nominations in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh will contest a total of 80 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, divided into 7 phases. Out of the 80 seats, the State contested a total of 10 seats on the 11th of April, in the first phase of the elections. The polling for the remaining 70 seats will be conducted in 6 phases, scheduled on the 18th of April, 23rd of April, 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and the 19th of May 2019.

The major parties contesting the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections are the Indian National Congress (INC,) the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the grand alliance of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP.)

The results of the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
