Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 4th of April, filed his nomination papers, to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala.
In honour of Mr. Gandhi, the Party workers in Wayanad organised a grand show in Kalpetta. After attending the roadshow Mr. Gandhi filed his nomination around 11:50 A.M.
Priyanka Gandhi, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge of Uttar Pradesh East, along with Party leaders and followers, accompanied Mr. Gandhi till the Collector’s office.
Mr. Gandhi submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer (RO) of the Wayanad constituency in Kerala.
The INC authorities in Kerala arranged tight security for the Party President. The Special Protection Group (SPG) was deployed from the venue of the roadshow to the Collector’s office.
Rahul Gandhi will contest from two seats, Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad in Kerala.
Though the opposition parties criticised Rahul Gandhi for contesting from Wayanad, Mr. Gandhi ignored the comments and finally filed his nomination.
Rahul Gandhi will contest against P.P. Suneer, a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M),] and Thushar Vellappally, the candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Wayanad.
Kerala will contest a total of 20 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled on the 23rd of April 2019.
The major parties contesting the Kerala Lok Sabha elections are the INC, the NDA and the Left Democratic Front (LDF.)
The results of the Kerala Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
