Rajnath Singh, the Home Minister of India, on the 16th of April, filed his nomination to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Lucknow constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Rajnath Singh, who is the first candidate to file his nomination in Lucknow, addressed a roadshow upto the office of the district magistrate. Mr. Singh, who represents the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) was accompanied by the Party leaders and Deputy Ministers of Uttar Pradesh.

After attending the roadshow, Mr. Singh filed his nomination from Lucknow, which he has represented since 2014.

Mr. Singh submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer (RO) of the Lucknow constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, was expected to accompany Mr. Singh to the RO’s office, but due to the ban of the Election Commission (EC,) he cannot address any rally or roadshow.

The opposition parties are yet to file nominations in the Lucknow constituency. The last date for filing nominations in Lucknow is the 19th of April.

Rajnath Singh is the current Members of Parliament (MP) of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He took to Twitter and asked for the blessings of the people of the constituency.

There are four Assembly segments in the two constituencies—Tiloi, Gauriganj and Jagdishpur in Amethi and Salon in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh (UP.)

Uttar Pradesh will contest a total of 80 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, divided into 7 phases. Out of the 80 seats, the State contested a total of 10 seats on the 11th of April, in the first phase of the elections. The polling for the remaining 70 seats will be conducted in 6 phases, scheduled on the 18th of April, 23rd of April, 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and the 19th of May 2019.

The major parties contesting the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections are the Indian National Congress (INC,) the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the grand alliance of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP.)

The results of the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
