The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD,) on the 23rd of April, announced the candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Ferozepur and Bathinda constituencies in Punjab.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, the President of the SAD, as well as his wife, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the Food Processing Minister of India, were nominated as the Member of Parliament (MP) candidates from Ferozepur and Bathinda respectively.

On the 23rd of April, Parkash Singh Badal, the patron of the SAD, addressed the media and announced the candidates contesting against the Indian National Congress (INC.)

Prakash Singh Badal said, “It has been decided that SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal will contest from the Ferozepur seat and Harsimrat will contest from the Bathinda seat.”

Punjab will contest a total of 13 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled on the 19th of May 2019.

The SAD formed an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with a seat sharing formula of 10 and 3 seats respectively. The SAD nominated 10 MP candidates in the State, whereas the BJP will contest from 3 Parliamentary constituencies.

Sukhbir Singh Badal will contest against Sher Singh Ghubaya, the MP nominee of the INC, whereas Harsimrat Kaur Badal will contest against Amrinder Singh Raja of the INC in Bathinda.

The Lok Sabha elections started on the 11th of April and will continue till the 19th of May.

The Lok Sabha elections are divided into 7 phases, scheduled on the 11th of April, 18th of April, 23rd of April, 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and the 19th of May.

On the 11th of April and 18th of April, the Indian states contested a total of 188 seats in the 1st phase and the 2nd phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

The polling for the 3rd phase of the Lok Sabha elections is currently underway, on the 23rd of April.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC.)

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
